As a standalone film, Let Me In would register as reasonably okay. Good, even. However, as a version of the beautiful Let The Right One In, it confirms the disappointment anticipated. While the story is much the same, and the performances of the children at its centre—Chloe Moretz’s vulnerable yet deadly vampire is particularly fabulous—are faultless, some clumsy, awkward CGI renders the film devoid of the delicateness that had us fall so in love with the original. Also subtle as a sledgehammer is some political pondering, irrelevant here and mildly irritating as a result. Not bad as such, just lacklustre.
